AFP-MI Hits Schauer, McDowell for Supporting Pelosi Spending Sprees in TV Ads

          Americans For Prosperity-Michigan today released television commercials in Michigan’s two most highly-targeted congressional districts, discussing both candidate’s support for failed Washington policies that are drowning Michigan in debt and unemployment. The ads, titled “Critical Time” and “Turnaround” begin running today on cable and broadcast networks across the 1st and 7th Congressional Districts respectively.

Candidate Survey Results

See how State Senate and State House candidates from across Michigan answered our 38 question survey.
Complete Survey Results          Data Analysis  (percentage of support for each question)

The survey results represent issue positions of candidates in more than 60% of Michigan’s 148 state legislative districts. Some of the most interesting survey findings include:
 -118 of 130 GOP legislative candidates (91%) support making Michigan a Right To Work state.
 -87% of GOP candidates support eliminating the charter school cap.
 -Only 17% of GOP candidates support targeted tax breaks by industry, while just 13% support targeted tax breaks by company.

Michigan has 7th highest gas tax rate

Check out this map – http://taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/26444.html – that shows Michigan as of Jan. 4, 2010 has the 7th highest tax rate on gasoline in the country. Many organizations are pushing for a huge gas tax increase.  The gas tax is likely to be a very hotly debated topic after the November general election — especially since many legislators & the Governor will never face voters again.

Republican Michelle McManus, Senate Capital Outlay Chair, and Democrats in the state legislature want to see a Capital Outlay budget passed this year. This is an effort to create jobs by increasing state government debt.

This quote could have come from any D.C. Democrat promoting last year’s $787 billion stimulus: “I would say it’s unfortunate that the Governor isn’t interested in putting people back to work,” said Michelle McManus. “Maybe she’ll want to join the process later in the game. I will just continue to work with Mike Lahti, who I have a great relationship with. Maybe we can figure out how to put people back to work.”
