Right To Work
The Time is
RIGHT to put Michigan TO WORK
Join the majority of Michigan voters.
What is Right To Work?
In Michigan, you can be fired for your beliefs. Michigan workers who belong to a unionized employer must, by law, be fired if they refuse to pay dues. A Right To Work law requires paying union dues only if a worker chooses to belong to the union.Today, 22 states protect the freedom to be employed without being forced to pay union dues. If employers can’t discriminate based on race, gender, creed or weight, why can they discriminate based on union membership?
It’s not a government program. It doesn’t cost taxpayers money.
Right To Work does not ban unions or make joining a union more difficult.
Jobs: Forced Unionism Doesn’t Work
Unlike tax abatements or even tax cuts, a Right To Work law would change our economic climate immediately. Every economic indicator demonstrates a Right To Work law would lead to significantly faster job and income growth. Union bosses have utterly failed and refuse to change.
Unions thrive and have significant political power in Right To Work states. But like every other organization in the U.S., they must earn the trust of workers in order to collect money for lobbying and political contributions.
Justice: Your Money or Your Job
Michigan’s current laws side with union bosses and their job-killing policies, even though only 18% of Michigan’s workers belong to a union.
All Americans have a right to join a union, but should never be forced to pay a third party to get or keep a job.
In these tough times, extorting dues and firing workers who don’t want to belong to a union is unacceptable. Good union officials don’t need the power to extort and compel workers – and bad ones don’t deserve it.
How Do We Put Michigan To Work?
Year after year, polls show a strong majority of Michigan voters support the Right to Work.
Our state elected Representatives and Senators could pass Right to Work legislation. With a 2/3 vote state legislators could put a constitutional amendment on the ballot allowing for Michigan voters to decide if Michigan should become a Right to Work state. State politicians have lacked the courage to enact meaningful reforms to fix Michigan’s economy.
An alternative to legislative action
would be a citizen’s initiative. The initiative process would require the collection of signatures during a six month period to place Right to Work on the general election ballot.
Forced union membership is unfair. And it doesn’t work. Michigan has had enough.
