Race to the Bottom
Michigan was 9th in per capita income in 1965. Today we are 41st! Top ten income state to a bottom 10. Michigan is a poor state because of backroom deals between politicians and special interests like powerful union bosses. The people of Michigan deserve better!
New GM and Chrysler workers make $14 an hour. Thanks union bosses for keeping those wages high and jobs in Michigan. Yeah right!
It is time to start the race back to the top! Top in wages and in employment.
AFP-MI supports real reforms like SB 945 introduced by State Senator Nancy Cassis which allows for a local Right to Work option. Why do we force workers to join and pay dues to a private 3rd party organization to keep a job? Economic growth rates in Right to Work states is twice as high as non Right to Work states.
AFP-MI supports a 2/3 majority in the Senate and House to raise taxes. This would force politicians to reform and restructure government and stop trying to raid the family budget to support outdated government delivery of services.
AFP-MI supports eliminating the 22 percent surcharge on the MBT that drives businesses away.
AFP-MI supports putting all state and local government spending (including k-12 and universities)on-line. The citizens have a right to see how every last dime of their tax dollars are spent.
These four reforms would be a good start to making Michigan competitive, returning jobs to Michigan and increasing wages.
